Thermal Performance of Concrete with Reactive Magnesium Oxide as an Alternative Binder

This study evaluates the thermal conductivity of concrete produced with reactive magnesium oxide (MgO) as a partial replacement for cement. MgO is viable option industry, mainly due to its benefits in sustainability and reducing CO2 emissions compared cement emissions. Four different MgO’s Australia, Canada, Spain were used mixes at 5%, 10%, 20% by mass. The experimental results showed that higher when increases after 28 days curing. With incorporation MgO, increased between 3.2% 10.2%, mechanical properties declined: compressive strength 12.7% 26.2%, splitting tensile 9.7% 34.0%, modulus elasticity ?4.1% 7.8%. Finally, it important highlight addition contents modified microstructure matrix. As result, there was an increase porosity, which negatively influenced conductivity. Therefore, relationships these also analyzed.
